Peter Vanlaw – Producer/Co-Writer
Peter Vanlaw produced films and TV commercials for over forty years, for clients all over the world. Early in his career he produced an award winning, theatrical short titled “Blaze Glory”, which was a hit with audiences worldwide, having appeared on the “Glenn Campbell Show”, and later as part of American Airlines In-Flight movies.
In 1988 he formed his own production company, Western Branch Productions, where he continued to produce commercials for TV as well as theatrical and corporate films. However, the period was highlighted by his venture into the digital world of VFX and CG Animation when he produced the live action and visual effects elements for a CD ROM game titled “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy“, starring William Shatner, George Takai, and Walter Koenig in their original roles of Kirk, Sulu, and Chekov.
Prior to the formation of Western Branch Productions, Peter was Executive Producer for a number of leading TV commercial production companies, including Dove Films, which was then partnered by the renowned director and DP, Haskell Wexler.
Since his retirement, Peter has produced a series of documentaries for the “Motor Press Guild” which have been shown at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. This has been in addition to his personal documentary, “For the Life of Me”. He is a member of the Directors Guild of America, having worked for many years as a Producer, First Assistant Director, and Unit Production Manager. He also belongs to the Television Academy of America, and the Motor Press Guild.
Robert Sallin – Director/Co-Writer
Mr. Sallin has been active as a director and producer for over forty years, moving between motion pictures, television and advertising. His credits as a feature film producer include Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan for Paramount. As a feature film director, he directed Albert Finney and Yvette Mimieux in Picasso Summer for Warner Brothers. As a documentary director, he directed Walter Cronkite in all of the European and African episode segments of Air Power, the CBS, Peabody Award winning television series. Among other notables Mr. Sallin has directed are: Bill Cosby, Jack Lemmon, Albert Finney, Tom Selleck, Cliff Robertson, Carol Burnett, Farrah Fawcett, Rodney Dangerfield, Carrol O’Connor, Teri Garr and Joan Rivers.
In advertising, Mr. Sallin has directed and produced nearly two thousand commercials for national and international clients such as MCA/Universal, RCA, Coca-Cola, General Motors, United Airlines, H.J. Heinz, Ford, Procter & Gamble, Toyota, Union Oil, and Bank of America. He has also been a Senior Vice President of a major international advertising agency, supervising the creation and production of over 1000 commercials for agency clients.
Mr. Sallin is the recipient of over fifty top awards in national and international television advertising competitions, including the CLIO for the Most Humorous Commercial of the Year, and the Grand Prix at the Venice Film Festival for the outstanding commercial worldwide.
On a pro bono basis, he has created and directed a series of videos for the UCSB Health Education Department on AIDS, drunk driving, date rape, eating disorders, self-image issues, etc. For the Los Angeles Police Department, he has created multi-media awareness campaigns for gunfire reduction, fireworks safety and children’s activities programs. He has been a member of the Directors Guild of America since 1966.
